This series of four pieces paints a lovely sound picture of the charm and amusement of childhood. Playful and elegant, they are evocative and affectionate. They were written in 1986 for the birth of Adam Eckstein, the son of Sherry Eckstein and her partner Carole Slone, both close friends of the Composer and his family. Mr. DiGiacomo adored children, but understood the educational and developmental complexities involved in raising them well and, in his role as an educator, lovingly guided the growth of many individual lives, both young and old. He keenly understood the importance of encouraging self-discipline and responsibility in a child or an adult, gently demanding an awareness and consideration of others, as well as a deep and abiding love for life and its many joys. These are good things to encourage in everyone.
