Lyrics drawn by Frank DiGiacomo from the Song of Solomon in the Bible.

The Canticle of Canticles, Song of Songs or Song of Solomon are common nomenclature for the book of the Bible which uses human love as the symbolic imagery for a rapturous mystical homage to the love between God and all His Creation. It is attributed to Solomon, son of King David.

LYRICS
1. Let him kiss me
Let him kiss me with the kiss of his mouth;
let my beloved come into his garden,
and eat the fruit of his apple trees.
A bundle of myrrh is my beloved to me,
and he shall abide, and I shall abide,
in the warmth of the kiss of his mouth.

2. Behold thou are fair
Behold, behold thou art fair,
behold thou art fair, O my love.
Behold, ah, behold thou art fair, O my beloved,
thine eyes are as those of doves, ah behold!
Ah, behold thou art fair,
ah, behold thou art fair, my beloved.
Behold thou art comely.
Our bed, our bed is flourishing.
The beams of our house are of cedar,
our rafters of cypress trees.
Behold, behold thou art fair,
behold thou art fair, O my love.
As the apple tree among the trees of the woods,
so is my beloved among the sons of men.
Stay me up with flowers,
and compass me about with apples,
because I languish with love.
His left hand is under my head,
and his right hand shall embrace me.
Behold, behold he is fair,
behold he is fair, O my love.

3. The voice of my beloved
The voice of my beloved,
behold he cometh leaping upon the mountains,
skipping over the hills.
My love is like a roe or a young hart.
Behold my beloved speaketh to me:
“Arise, make haste, my love, my dove,
my beautiful one, and come, and come, and come!
For winter is now past,
and the rain is over and gone.
The flowers have appeared in our land,
the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.
The fig tree hath put forth her green figs,
and the vines in flower yield their sweet smell.
Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come!
Return!
Be like to a roe, or a young hart,
for thy voice is sweet and thy face comely.”

4. My beloved is white and ruddy
My beloved is white and ruddy,
chosen out of thousands;
his head is as the finest gold;
his locks as branches of palm trees,
black as raven.
His eyes as doves upon brooks of waters,
which are washed with milk
and sit beside the plentiful streams.
His cheeks are as beds of aromatical spices
set by the perfumers.
His lips are as lilies dropping choice myrrh.
His hands are turned and as of gold, full of hyacinths.
His body as of ivory, set with sapphires.
His legs are pillars of marble,
that are set on bases of gold.
His form as of Libanus, excellent as the cedars.
His throat most sweet, and he is all lovely;
such is my beloved, and he is my friend,
O ye daughters of Jerusalem.

5. (6) Put me as a seal
Put me as a seal upon thy heart,
as a seal upon thine arm,
for love is strong as death,
jealousy as hard as hell,
the lamps thereof are fire and flames.
I am the flower of the field,
and the lily of the valleys.
Thou that dwellest in the gardens,
the friends hearken:
make me hear thy voice.
Ah!
Make me hear thy voice.
Flee away, O my beloved, oh, flee away,
and be like to the roe, and to the young hart
upon the mountains of aromatical spices.
Make me hear thy voice.
Flee away!
