Lyrics by Frank DiGiacomo with assistance from Julian R. Pace.
The Prince cannot leave Undine behind him. He pledges himself to her, vowing never to betray her trust in him. Deeply moved, Undine gives him a jewel once fashioned by Kuhleborn for her mother. He opens his heart to her in this Duet. Prince Hulbrand wishes to take Undine from her woodland home to his kingdom. She is frightened and hesitant.
LYRICS
Undine:
Shall I go away with you?
Then shall I leave my forest home, and go away with you?
Never, never to return, no more be sheltered by these trees,
never to see my lovely stream again?
Shall then I go away with you, shall I go away with you?
Prince Hulbrand: There is nothing you should fear, be mine and come away with me!
You are my love, my fairest summer dream.
Will you come away with me?
Undine: (with the Prince)
Shall I go away with you?
Will you teach me not to fear your touch,
not to run from your embrace?
Will you teach me what it is to feel the joy,
the sorrow never known to wood and stream?
Ah, will you show me what it is to love?
Shall I go away with you?
Then shall I leave my forest home, and go away with you?
Ah! Nevermore to see the faërie glow of elfen light,
nor hear their magic singing?
Shall then I go away with you?
Ah, shall I go away with you?
Shall I leave then with you?
Prince Hulbrand:
Leave the calm, chill waters, leave the darkened wood!
You are every dream I know, every dream I know,
within my reach at last!
Your fears will disappear,
once you are mine, once you are mine at last!
Ah, come away with me! Will you come away with me?
Let my touch set you free, do not fear to follow me,
do not fear to follow, follow me.
Leave the calm still waters!
Ah! You are every dream I know,
you are my love, my very will to live;
I could not let you go.
Oh, take my hand, and come away with me.
Come away with me! Let my touch set you free!
